Open space is important for our community members. Throughout the shire there are plenty of open spaces for residents and visitors to use and enjoy for recreational activities.
A multi-purpose sports oval (in addition to the school oval) provides a safe venue to participate in rugby league, soccer, AFL and cricket to name a few of the sports we love to play in Lockhart.
The Lockhart River Aboriginal Shire Council has for many years investigated possible funding options for an indoor multi-purpose sport and recreation centre to enable our residents, particularly young people, to participate in sporting and recreational activities all year around. Such a facility would be a great boost to our community.
