In the traditional Kuuku Ya'u language, the focus is on strengthening puuya - the life force. This concept is at the heart of efforts to empower our community by tapping into the important elements of puuya - recognition, respect, responsibility and routine.

We want a community where people are happy, healthy and feeling good about themselves - where sport and recreation is happening, young people are confident and motivated, people are in touch with culture, families are supporting each other and there is respect for our elders.

All of these things are in our hands. By building effective partnerships, the Lockhart River Aboriginal Shire Council has signalled our community's willingness to work with governments and other agencies to achieve these outcomes.
